A natural tan is a sign of good health and often wealth. However we have become wiser to the damaging effects of the sun and have finally begun to take care of our skin. Excessive exposure to the sun and its harmful UV rays has been proven to be one of the major causes of skin cancer. The more you expose yourself the higher the risk of developing skin cancer. Over exposure to the sun and to sun beds can cause premature ageing. Fine lines, wrinkles and broken blood vessels start to appear making you look much older than your years.

Fake Bake Spray Tan After Care We recommend Fake Bake vitamin enriched tan enhancing Lotion or Skin Smoothie Oil to keep your skin well moisturised.    These products have been specially formulated to work with Fake Bake tans. Other moisturisers may react with your tan as the Alkalines in them strip colour, leaving your skin patchy.

Spray Tanning FAQ

We all have worries when we try something new. We've put together some of the most common questions that we have been asked:

What does FAKE BAKE sun tanning solution contain?

• The main ingredient in FAKE BAKE is dhydroxyacteone (or DHA as it is commonly referred to) it has been used in the cosmetic industry for over 30 years. It is manufactured from sugar and does not contain any harmful chemicals. It does not contain alcohol like many of the tanning products on the market. Alcohol has a drying effect on the skin. It also contains erythulose which when combined with DHA reduces streaking and miscolouring.

• The Fake Bake solution when applied to the skin works with the amino acids on the skins surface. The DHA within the solution changes to sugar which combines with the amino acids to form melanoids which give the brown colour. There is an instant colour visible immediately after the tanning session, this is a guide colour and will wash off. Tthe tan will develop in 6 hours however for maximum effect we recommend a development time of 8-10 hours.

• People are becoming more and more aware of the damaging effects of the sun and UV tanning. Fake Bake spray tan is a fantastic way to get an all over golden brown tan without exposure to damaging UV rays.

• It is recommended that the client should have a patch test 24 hours prior to the treatment.

• Because the Fake Bake solution reacts with the skins own tones and amino acids the tan develops to a shade to suit the clients natural colouring, whether that is fair or dark. There is also a choice you can have a light tan with the origional sun kissed solution or a deep rich tan with the dark sun drenched solution.

• For clients who wish to remain slightly covered during the spray tanning session we can provide disposable underwear. Or if they feel happier they can wear their own underwear as the product will wash out. However it is more advisable to wear dark coloured underwear if this is the case.

• We recommend that the eyes be shut when spray tanning on or near the face, however when the eyes are open the mist should not affect the contact lenses.

• We provide hair caps to protect your hair during the spray tan. However there is nothing in the solution that will harm your hair and it will wash out.

• To achieve the maximum benefit from your spray tan session we would recommend that you refrain from any vigorous exercise or washing/showering within the first 6 hours. To allow the tan to develop if you can wait 8-10 hours this will give you the maximum colour result.

• We recommend that the client exfoliates with Fake Bake Passion Fruit Body Polish 5-7 days after the spray tan session. Repeat this every 2 days to ensure your tan fades evenly and to prepare your skin for your next Fake Bake application.

• A lot depends on how the client looks after their skin. If you follow the pre tan instructions and very gently exfoliate as above using the Fake Bake Smoothie Oil or Fake Bake Oil Free Moisturiser daily this will help to lock in the colour and hydrate your skin.

• Because of the formulation of the Fake Bake spray tanning products the tanning colour is very natural and does not look orange nor does it have that DHA smell which is a tell tale sign of a recent spray tan.

• Swimming pools contain chlorine which is a bleaching agent  so Swimming between Fake Bake spray tan sessions will cause the spray tan to fade quicker.
